The Big Challenge 8b
Tritt unserer Klasse in der Game Zone der Big Challenge bei und sammle Punkte beim Üben der unregelmäßigen Verben etc. Anleitung siehe unten. Und damit du nicht diese lange Adresse eingeben musst, einfach auf den lila Button klicken, um zu unserer Klasse zu kommen.
Da die Game Zone im Browser auf iPads nicht so gut funktioniert, ist es am iPad (oder Handy) besser, wenn ihr euch die kostenlose App installiert. Beim Registrieren in der App müsst ihr Klasse 8 auswählen und dann unseren Klassen-Code (siehe unten) eingeben, um der Klasse beizutreten.

Corona week 1 Tasks
Please upload your summaries of the text "Healthy and active at Thanksgiving" to the fileexplorer (Abgabe -> English -> U3 -> summaries). Don't forget to write your name under the summary!
1. Comment writing: Mrs Starmountain says: "Students shouldn't be allowed to bring their smartphones to school!"
a) What are positive aspects of smartphones at school? What are negative aspects? Make a table collecting pro and contra arguments.
b) Write a comment of about 100 words. Start with an introduction (Einleitung) - What is the comment about? Then write the main part (Hauptteil). Write one paragraph (Absatz) about the negative aspects and one paragraph about the positive aspects of smartphones at school. In the last part of the comment - the conclusion (Fazit) - you state your own opinion (eigene Meinung). Use as many words/expressions from the U3 vocabulary list as possible.
c) Upload your comment (don't forget your name!) to the fileexplorer (Abgabe -> English -> U3 -> comments).

2. What do you know about California? Start a Mindmap (Popplet).
3. Have a look at the pictures and the texts on p. 74-75. Add as many pieces of information to your California Popplet as you can. Also add some pictures to make your mindmap look nice. Save it in your "Scrapbook" (for example by taking a screenshot). Then upload it to the fileexplorer (Abgabe -> English -> U4 -> Mindmap California).
4. Do exercise 2 and 3. You can find the audios in the fileexplorer (Lesen -> English -> Unit 4 -> Audios)
Station 1
5. Have a look at the ads on page 76. Describe the photos orally (mündlich). Then pick two photos and write a detailed description.
6. Do No 2 on page 76 (audio is in the fileexplorer).
7. What do you think of the ads? Use the words in No 3a/b on page 77 to write two sentences about each ad.
8. Do No 4a/b on page 77. Write about 50 words to give reasons for your ranking.
9. Create your own ad, for example for your favourite ice cream shop, your school, your village, the Rhoen mountains etc. The ad should have an appealing design, a catchy or funny slogan/headline, a spectacular/unusual/fascinating or funny picture and a clear message. You can use for example goodnotes or keynotes to create the ad. Upload it to the filexeplorer (Abgabe -> English -> Unit 4 -> Ads).

Corona week 4 tasks
Here are the tasks for you. Please finish them until Friday, 25th April, 12 p.m.:
Have a nice week and stay safe!
- Do The Big Challenge test 2019 (it will take about 30 minutes). If you want to, you can also do the other two tests voluntarily. (downloads below)
- Do the Klett Testen und Fördern Kompetenztest 8.1. Use the log in name and password matching your alphabetical number in the class (schueler01 = Niklas, schueler02 = Hannah, etc.). If you aren't sure what number you are, have a look in the list. You will find the the lists in the filexeplorer or in the Lernportal.
- Read the text about Native Americans and answer the questions (download below).
- Prepare a 1-minute-speech in English. You can choose any topic you like, but it must have something to do with the USA. First make a mindmap about the topic. Then, with the help of the mindmap, talk about the topic (don't write it down as a text and just read it!). Check the time, was it too short? or too long? (It is OK if it's a little too long, but it mustn't be shorter than 60 seconds and not longer than 120 seconds.) Practise your speech until you can do it well. Then record or film it. Upload your mindmap and 1-minute-speech to the filexeplorer or the Lernportal until Friday, 24th April, 12 p.m.

Homework: Copy the social media vocabulary (all of them, including the blue ones) in the box on p. 204 into your goodnotes wordfield (WOF) folder. You can also add some pictures. Then do the easy crossword puzzle to practise the vocabulary. Look up the words that you don't remember.

- Copy G11 on p.166 into your goodnotes grammar folder. Read it carefully.
- Do the "test yourself" at the bottom of the page.
- Go to page 80 in your English book. Answer the questions in No 1.
- Listen to the blog of a Californian teenager and read along (No 2, track 5).
- Do No 3 & 4 on page 81.
- Read the text again and highlight all the verbs in the present perfect and the signal words for the present perfect. (There should be 8 verbs and 4 signal words.)
- Look at the sentence in line 21: "I've been thinking about this for the last two or three days, ... It's a new tense. It's a bit similar to the present perfect, but it's still different. What is the difference? Can you guess the name of this new tense?
